The mantle takes both hard compression and repeated impact — exactly the duty manganese steel is built for. Under load its surface work-hardens into a hard wear layer while the core stays ductile, so it resists both abrasion and the cracking that brittle grades suffer. ZGMn13Cr2 suits standard-duty cones; Mn18Cr2 adds toughness for large crushers and heavy, high-impact ore. In very abrasive, low-impact duty a high-chrome option may be discussed, but for rock and ore manganese remains the standard.

Mantles are made to order against your crusher model and chamber drawing — there is no one-size liner. When you submit an RFQ to a Chinese casting company, include the model, cavity type, and alloy. Expect a single contract covering pattern confirmation, heat treatment, dimensional and ultrasonic inspection, and export. Before choosing a partner, review how to choose a reliable casting supplier, and require a mill test certificate (MTC) with the actual chemistry and hardness.

Usually the same high-manganese grade, paired so the two surfaces wear in balance. Mismatched grades shorten the set life.

3. How is mantle life measured?

By crushed tonnage, not time — the same liner may last far longer on limestone than on abrasive granite.
