Product Overview

Electrolytic Nickel is a high-purity nickel metal product, typically supplied in the form of nickel plates. It has a silver-white metallic appearance with a purity of 99.9% or higher.


It is an important base metal widely used in stainless steel production, battery materials, electroplating industry, and high-end alloy manufacturing.


Production Process

Electrolytic Nickel is produced through smelting and electro-refining processes.


Nickel sulfide ore is first roasted into nickel oxide and then reduced to crude nickel. The crude nickel is further refined through electrolysis to obtain high-purity electrolytic nickel.


For laterite nickel ore, a hydrometallurgical process is applied, including crushing, screening, high-pressure acid leaching, solution purification, separation, and electro-winning to produce final electrolytic nickel products.


Common Grade

Jinchuan 1# Nickel is the most widely traded commercial grade with stable quality and high market liquidity.

Chemical composition:

  • Nickel + Cobalt ≥ 99.96%

Electrolytic Nickel can be cut and processed according to customer requirements:

  • Original nickel plate size: approx. 1m × 1m

  • Single plate weight: approx. 1.5 tons

  • Can be cut into 10 × 10 cm blocks

  • Can also be cut into 5 × 5 cm blocks

Important Notes

Jinchuan 1# Nickel is the main commercial grade in the market and is also a standard delivery grade in futures trading, with relatively higher pricing.

Other common sources include Huayou Nickel, Russian Nickel, and Xinjiang Nickel.

Original nickel plates usually require cutting according to customer requirements. Cutting costs must be included in quotation calculations together with LME price, premiums, and processing fees.

Electrolytic Nickel should not be confused with Electro-refined Nickel (Class 2 Nickel), as they differ in production process and grade classification.
