Introduction

Product Overview

Carbon Additive (Carburizer) is an important carbon material used in steelmaking and foundry production. It is mainly used to increase carbon content in molten iron during smelting, meeting different material composition requirements.

It is widely used in gray iron, ductile iron, and steelmaking processes as a key additive for adjusting molten iron composition and improving casting performance.

Product Classification

Carbon Additive is classified according to raw materials and production processes:

  • High-temperature Carbon Additive

  • Medium-temperature Carbon Additive

  • Calcined Coal Carbon Additive

Common raw materials include:

  • Calcined Coal Carburizer (C90)

  • Petroleum Coke Carburizer (C95, C96)

  • Graphitized Carburizer (C98, electrode carbon particles)

Common Grades

  • C90 (Calcined Coal)

  • C95 (Petroleum Coke)

  • C96 (Petroleum Coke)

  • C98 (Graphitized / Electrode Carbon)

Technical Specifications

High-temperature Carbon Additive:

  • Carbon: ≈98.5%

  • Sulfur: ≤0.05%

  • Nitrogen: ≈300 ppm

Medium-temperature Carbon Additive:

  • Carbon: ≈98%

  • Sulfur: ≤0.3%

  • Nitrogen: ≈800 ppm

Particle Size Selection

Particle size should be selected according to furnace capacity:

  • Below 1 ton furnace: 0.2–2 mm

  • Above 1 ton furnace: 1–5 mm

  • Ductile iron production: high-temperature type preferred

  • Gray iron production: medium-temperature type recommended
